We don’t think we are exaggerating in saying this was the biggest and best Rathgar Junior Open to date!
Massively oversubscribed with over 300 entrants across 11 events, the 4 day competition itself showed exactly what we do best in Rathgar – a warm welcome, top quality tennis in a fun and family-friendly environment.
Many of our own juniors got to showcase their talents, and the undeniable highlight of the weekend was the U12 200 Boys Final between our own superstars Ben Galligan and Dillon Fegan Ben G was the victor, and we congratulate him and his very sporting opponent.! We had other tremendous performances from Rathgar Junior members, which showcased the quality of our Junior programme
We also want to thank all the juniors, some of whom who didn’t make the final entry draws but still came down to help, support their pals, and just enjoy this wonderful event. They also proved themselves to be able entrepreneurs working in the Tuck Shop, selling raffle tickets and churning out the utterly delicious and nationally renowned Rathgar Open Toasted Sandwiches !
Special mention to our tweens and teens who helped umpire and run the very busy red, orange, and green ball events. The future looks brighter with young people like these in our midst !
Running a Junior Open is a mammoth task, and we appreciate the hours of dedication given by Jamie Pilkington leading up to and during the event… He had an encouraging word for every competitor and always showed great empathy and kindness to the children and extreme patience towards parents!!
He was ably assisted by coaches Claire Keogh and Michael Frawley, two amazing ambassadors for our club.
The weekend triumphed thanks to that wonderful volunteering spirit, which must always be nurtured ! On that note, we thank the Junior Committee for their tireless work and good humour even in the face of unforeseen adversity !!
